so you may need to remove it from the refrigerator several hours
before starting.
Ingredients
2 cups (8oz) of flour
2 teaspoons of baking powder
½ a cup (8 tablespoons) of butter or soft margarine
1 cupful of sugar plus extra for sprinkling
Just under half a cup of milk or water
1 egg
½ teaspoon of salt 1 teaspoon of nutmeg You will also need 1 or 2 baking sheets Parchment paper Cookie cutter Cooking Instructions First, sift the flour, the baking powder, the salt and the spice into a bowl. Then in a second bowl cream (beat) together the butter and the sugar until light and fluffy. Next in a third smaller bowl beat the egg. Now, beating well after each addition, gradually add the beaten egg to the creamed mixture. To this alternately add the sifted ingredients and just enough milk to make a dough that is stiff enough to roll out. Then put the dough in the refrigerator for about an hour, to chill and rest. After this, preheat the oven to 375°F. Now, breaking off a piece at a time, roll out the dough on a floured surface to a thickness of about a quarter of an inch. Then with a cookie cutter cut into sweet baby related shapes. Transfer each cookie to an ungreased or parchment lined baking sheet, sprinkle with sugar and bake for about 10 minutes or until golden. Carefully, using a palette knife, transfer the cookies to a cooling rack. Then to present these delicious sugar cookies to your baby shower guests you could simply pop each one into a food safe cellophane bag and seal, or carefully wrap in food safe cellophane.
